How to Obtain an Export Registration Certificate in Bangladesh (IRC)?

Anyone can Export any permissible item without any value and quantity restrictions and without obtaining any permission from any authority in Bangladesh but the Export Registration Certificate (ERC) or import license is needed for the import of the same. In Bangladesh, the Office of the Chief Controller of Imports and Exports (CCIE) which is an individual organization under the Ministry of Commerce issues this Export certificate or Export licence. So finally, Export Registration Certificate (ERC) or export licence is a mandatory document for business entities who are desirous of exporting any other special items from Bangladesh.

Requirements

To get a commercial import license (ERC) the following document are highly required.

There are three types of applicants for ERC registration. Depending on the type of applicant, the required document varies. The following documents must be submitted.

Types of Applicant,

  1. Individual or Proprietorship Firm
  2. Partnership Firm
  3. Private Limited Company

Before applying for a ERC certificate, being a member of a recognized Chamber or Trade Association is mandatory. 

Basically, three types of Membership Certificate is accepted:

  1. Any Chamber of Commerce
  2. Trade organization. Like. BGMEA, FBCCI
  3. Government-approved association. Like, certificate of the Electric Association in case of import of Electric products, Certificate of Plastic Association in case of import of plastic products.

To get a membership certificate you have to apply the concerned Chamber of Commerce, Trade organization or Government- approved association with its prescribed way.

The certificate fee and required documents is fixed by the concerned Chamber or Trade Association

(A) Individual or Proprietorship Firm

  4. Up to date Bank Solvency Certificate (Original Copy)
  5. Up-to-date Membership Certificate (Original Copy)
  6. NID/Birth Certificate/Passport
  7. Recent Photo of the applicant
  8. Mobile Number
  9. E-mail address
  10. For special business, prior approval letter
  11. Original copy of treasury challan and original copy of the submission of 15% VAT on the registration fee

(B) Partnership Firm

  1. Official/Govt. Fees

  4. Up-to-date Bank Solvency Certificate (Original Copy)
  5. Up-to-date Membership Certificate (Original Copy)

  7. Recent Photo of the partners
  8. Mobile Number of the partners
  9. E-mail address
  10. Partnership deed
  11. Registration Certificate of Partnership
  12. For special business, prior approval letter
  13. Original copy of treasury challan and original copy of the submission of 15% VAT on the registration fee

(C) Private Limited Company

  1. Official/Govt. Fees

  13. Original copy of treasury challan and original copy of the submission of 15% VAT on the registration fee

How to submit the Govt. fee?

Registration fee, the cost of pass-book and 15% VAT on Fee should be deposited under the head number: 1-1731-0001-1801at the Bangladesh Bank or Sonali Bank and three (3) copies of Treasury Challan shall be collected. (Sonali bank branches should be used only where Bangladesh Bank is not available). Collect and complete 3 copies of Chalan Form and pay the Schedule fee. 

Renewal of Export Registration Certificate (ERC License in Bangladesh)

It is highly required to renew Emport Registration Certificate (ERC License) every year. The renewal period is 1st July to 30 September of every year.

Online Registration Process

Application can be made through online. In that case, firs of all applicant must have to open an account and scanned copy of required documents can be submitted on online.
